Abstract

Sidney and Beatrice Webb travelled extensively in India for four months in 1911-12, recording their experiences and impressions in a detailed diary. This document, virtually unnoticed and forgotten for seventy-five years, is here published for the first time, taking its place among the finest travel literature on India. The sharpness of their observations and the range of their interests makes the Webb's diary both informative and entertaining, a work of considerable documentary value and literary charm.
